In a digital era when “We”, the creative people are more often evaluated by the number of followers, likes and comments on our social media; the model industry seems to be having drastic changes.
Forget about the days when we would open a fashion magazine, flip through the glossy pages and look at those wonderful adverts like Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Miu Miu,etc; you name it. And we would wonder who those beautiful faces were; like name, age, nationality, etc. There was literally no way to find much about them, unless you called every single model agency and requested their information.
Because after all, they were only beautiful faces and amazing bodies with no name or identity, unless of course they were one of the Supermodel Squad like Naomi or Claudia (which by the way; don’t even need a surname because we all know who they are).
And as the number of social media applications keeps on growing by the day, so does our hunger to look into peoples life through an Instagram account or a Youtube channel. Its a phenomenon very hard to describe, it may be that we are constantly looking for inspiration, aspirations or simply looking to feel identified with someone else out there.
This phenomenon is certainly having a huge impact on the model industry as important brands would now consider having a “youtuber” or “instagramer” as their ambassador, promoter or even face of a campaign; over having a perfectly strange but beautiful faces booked through a model agency.
I would call it a fashion survival game, brands are interested in lifting profits and if social influencers will bring more customers and sales; they will have them in their team.
I mean, not so long ago the "Fashion Queen" Anna Wintour swore that she will never ever have a Kardashian stepping into her acclaimed Met Gala event, and for the last few years even “momager” Kris Jenner have enjoyed an invitation to such an “A-list”event.
Anna Wintour then admitted how she would do anything to generate sales for Vogue, but oh well! Thats another story.
So now you know if you want to become a successful model, it might be very worthy and beneficial for you to keep your social media game strong because after all, we are all becoming digital stats.
